Adrian Clayton
Adrian has been a committed kayaker for over 20 years. He is a qualified Sea Guide, Sea Instructor and Assessor under the Paddle Australia Award Scheme. He also holds awards with the British Canoe Union. He has been working with ProKayaks for the last six years.
Adrian’s personal paddling CV includes a Bass Strait crossing in 2006, the full coastline of New South Wales (in separate bites, completed in 2017) — much of it solo, extensively in Tasmania including a 12-day expedition below the 40th parallel (Cockle Creek to Bathurst Harbour and return). He has also paddled extensively in other parts of the world including the Mediterranean, Japan, New Zealand, West Coast USA and Vanuatu. He has completed three Hawkesbury Classics and holds an age record in the UN1 class of the event.
During his career in kayaking, Adrian has been responsible for guiding and instructing more than 10,000 people in either a commercial or recreational environment. A long-standing member of the NSW Sea Kayak Club, he is an active instructor and trip leader within the Club. Adrian is also the current editor of the Club’s quarterly magazine, Salt. And if that’s not enough, he regularly participates in the Lane Cove River Kayakers’ weekly 12 kilometre time trial.
Whether instructing or guiding, Adrian regards himself as one of those very fortunate individuals who are paid for what they love doing. His enthusiasm for kayaking as an activity for all ages (from the young to the young-at-heart) is infectious.
